| When Naomi was only a few days old, her mother placed
her in the arms of a monk, asked him to care for her
baby, and then collapsed. Naomi’s mother died a few
days later. The monk, Brother Gabriel, raised Naomi,
giving her love and support and teaching her the art
of illumination.
Now a grown woman, Naomi must make a choice. She wants to stay with Brother Gabriel and keep illuminating the Holy Scripts, but to do so, she must become a nun, which would end her dreams of having a family. Her decision becomes even harder to make when a dark, seductive man arrives at Krak des Chevaliers, claiming he’s Brother Gabriel’s brother. Naomi finds this hard to believe since he’s the exact opposite of her kind, gentle mentor. She knows the man is dangerous, but there’s something about him she can’t resist. Gideon wants revenge. When Gideon was cast out of heaven, he was turned into a monster, and he wants his brother Gabriel to pay for the part he played in the punishment. Gideon realizes luring Gabriel’s beloved adopted daughter into the darkness will be the perfect revenge. But what he doesn’t realize is that her goodness and innocence might lead him back to the light. BORN OF THE SHADOWS is an amazing story with some unique twists. Naomi is a wonderfully strong heroine, in a time when men usually made all the decisions. She always fights to help those who need her, and no one needs her more than Gideon. As punishment for his rebellion, Gideon has been turned from an angel into a vampire. Though in the beginning he seems purely evil, there is definitely goodness in him. The more he’s with Naomi, the more that goodness shines through. Several powerful, captivating secondary characters assist this couple in their fight for love. I hope to see them in future books, especially Gabriel. This sensuous tale gives vampire lovers something delightfully different and utterly satisfying. It’s highly recommended.
