I honestly don't know how I feel about the book but I do know that I thought about it for days afterwards. I also know that I will be reading it again soon. The synopsis of book doesn't do it justice. This is a gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, uplifting read. Damon and Tanner, as well as the secondary characters, are well-written and have a depth that can sometimes be lacking in 'sexually explicit romance' stories. The reader doesn't have to guess at the character's motivations -- the author lays them bare in sometimes brutal detail. The dialogue is engaging and accurately reflects the real world. The story does contain bondage and D/s elements but they are almost incidental as Damon and Tanner struggle to define their relationship and find their own way. The sex scenes are explicit, raw and often aggressive as the men fight both their needs and their demons. Tanner is dealing with survivor guilt and insecurities about his place in Damon's life. Damon is ruled by experiences that threaten to consume him. After several men are sexually assaulted outside the club that Damon co-owns with a friend, both men must confront Damon's past if their love is to prevail. The author's writing style allows the reader to become part of story and become intimately involved the characters' lives. I almost felt like I was intruding on private moments at times because I became so absorbed in the story. I hurt and cried and ultimately rejoiced with Tanner and Damon. Their courage and honor are inspirational. This is a story of trust and healing. I won't soon forget it and I am impatiently awaiting LC's story. Warning: explicit m/m action, BDSM elements, rape and abuse is alluded to.
