| Sara Carpenter loves baseball. The sound of bat against ball, the
smell of the ball field, and of course, the men, all help to make
baseball the sport of choice for her in Tucson, Arizona. None of the
men compare to her lover Jesse Matthews though. He's a bad boy
baseball player, a bit of a playboy, and he's held Sara's heart in the
palm of his hands for four years, ever since they met in fact.
However, he's dedicated to the game and Sara knows she will never
truly gain the hold on his heart she longs for.
As Jesse spends the summer in the minor leagues, healing his injured shoulder, he falls more and more in love with Sara. He's never wanted to inflict his baseball traveling lifestyle on her, so he's shied away from commitment in the past, but now, he's not sure how much longer he can keep from telling her he loves her. The question is, will she believe him? Will she listen to her heart when it tells her that Jesse is a man in a million? The Boys of Summer is just an all around fun story to read. I'm a bit of a sucker for athlete themed stories, and Ms. McKnight certainly wowed this reviewer. Jesse is a sweetie and despite his lady killer reputation, he's a true gentleman at heart and it really shows in his care and consideration of Sara. Likewise, Sara is an interesting heroine who is afraid to really risk her heart on love. Watching her go for the homerun, Jesse's love, made me smile because it was so genuine. You really felt her fear, confusion, and intense desire and longing for Jesse's happiness, whatever it may be. The carefree attitudes and hopes of summer is a pleasant tone that runs throughout the entire tale. You won't be disappointed when you pick up this story.
