| Sam is really Sarah, the simple bricklayer's helper. She has been hidden in plain sight for years after the fire that destroyed her home and family. When her employer accepts work in London, old mysteries are reopened. Sam hires William, an inquiry agent, to help her find the truth. Was her family murdered? Why is someone looking for her now and what can she do to feel safe again? As memories begin to trickle back to her, Sam is also confronted by long lost relatives and growing feelings for William. Only time will tell what the truth is...
This was an interesting read. The author keeps you guessing until the very end -- and I mean the very end. There are a few twists that you never see coming and a couple that are predictable. Sam is in a bind and Ms. Corwin keeps throwing more into the mix. The writing was easy to read although there were several points that I thought it lagged a bit too much. One thing I will say is that the characters are well written and thoughtfully executed. As a reader you really feel that you get to know all the characters fully. Without giving anything away, I must say that the Archers were in most of my favorite scenes. The jail escapade was a joy to read. The twist at the end is one that I didn't see coming. Corwin artfully brings the story full circle and ties it up with a sassy ending fit perfectly for the main character.
