| Gideon Yarbro has never forgotten Lydia Fairmont even though he's spent the last ten years away at college and tracking down outlaws for a living. His mailbox holds a letter from her asking his help. Little does he know she's desperately trying to escape a marriage to a man she doesn't want to marry. She feels she has no choice if she wants to keep a roof over the heads of her elderly great aunts Mittie and Millie. He absconds with Lydia, the aunts, and Helga the housekeeper back to his family home in Stone Creek literaly moments before the wedding.
Linda Lael Miller gives us another romance full of the flavor and charm of the old west. She blends the plight of the copper miners who suffer the greed of their owners into this tale that continues the saga of the Yarbro family. Wyatt and Rowdy have settled down into respectable lives with wives and children who add much to the charm of the story. Mittie and Millie are lost in the past but bring a lot of smiles to the present. The mothering Helga who has no trouble speaking her mind, is determined to make sure Lydia is well taken care of by Gideon. A doctor who hasn't lost his knowledge but has had to let his wife be his hands and his eyes is just another example of the author's ability to give a story a realism that endears the family and their friends to us. These characters and many others walk the pages of this book in a style that makes them become familiar and easy to read about. Gideon and Lydia are obviously in love but it takes the hands of a caring family to make them realize what's really important in life. This is another well crafted tale sure to keep the reader entranced as we follow the ups and downs of their relationship and the lives of this family.
