| Mary Womack is having the bad day to end all bad days. In one fell swoop, she lost her job, had her car stolen and broke the key to her apartment. Surely, her day can’t get any worse, can it? Matthew Adams is here on Earth to find his mate and she just happens to be his next door neighbor, Mary. She doesn’t think the gorgeous hunk down the hall could be interested in her because she’s not exactly thin. Well, Matt, aka Tek the Crown Prince of Kratania, is going to prove her wrong, so, so wrong. It’s almost hard to put into words how much I loved Michele Bardsley’s Bride Portal. How often do you read a novella, or any book for that matter, that really grabs hold and doesn’t let go? As a longtime fan of Ms. Bardsley’s work, Bride Portal is a prime example of what I feel she does so well…creating an immersive experience in her writing that is often laugh out loud funny, peopled with memorable characters and carnal sexuality sure to set off the smoke alarms in your house. Mary and Tek are characters that will live on in my memory for some time to come. Mary’s negative outlook regarding her size will make readers sympathetic to her need for love. Tek’s unconditional love, plus his all consuming desire, gave me the “warm fuzzies” for his character. Like our heroine, every woman deserves a man who lives for her pleasure. I am especially fond of the against-all-odds happily-ever-after stories. Bride Portal left me with a bright smile on my face at its conclusion and I sincerely hope that more stories of Kratania are on the horizon.
