| Willing suspension of disbelief is a key necessity to fully enjoy this fun romp by Lainey Bancroft. There are no real surprises in this story of a bridesmaid-run-ragged and her unexpected love, the entirely unsuitable grandson of her family's Mexican gardener.
First, let me just say that I LOVE that the love interest is a minority all the way, and I love even more that the heroine didn't really even think about it until she was forced to by her self-created drama. I also love the light-hearted and easy manner Ms. Bancrofts gifted this pair. Teasing banter and a flair for painting a clear picture with only a few words is clearly a strong suit of the author's. I can easily see her fictional town of Almendra becoming the backdrop for one of those many-charactered series that are so popular these days. The characters are all well-written with just enough detail and backstory to make me interested in their one-off stories. The only real complaint I have about this fun read is that there were some serious issues the author should have dealt with. First, we never got to the wedding that was the point of the whole storyline. Second, the heroine's bridezilla sister never got her comeuppance. Even a simple, "Shut up!" from someone - anyone! - would have sufficed. And, last, the class issues betweens hero and lady were never fully hashed out to my satisfaction.
