| In Arlington, Massachusetts, a woman is about to embark on a journey of self-discovery, into a dimension and a lifestyle as yet unknown to her. Miranda is young but wise enough to know that an impetus is needed-a catalyst-to propel her into a new and entirely other dimension of living. Miranda’s senses are constantly attuned to both her inner and outer environment, so life is never boring; but she realizes that more life does indeed exist, and she is growing almost impatient. One evening as she signs for a oil delivery at her apartment, the delivery driver, who is nearly thirty years older and unhappily married, seizes the opportunity to have relations with her, and since he is rather forceful about it, Miranda submits and enjoys.
The next day she poses as a life model for a class at Harvard, quite a different experience from her usual employment as model at the Art School. Michael, one of the students, is a native artiste from a family of generations of police officers, someone who early on knew his place in life and that he had not been born into that role. For Miranda, who has long known she is seeking a new role for herself, Michael is about to open a door to another dimension and ask her to cross through. Maria Isabel Pita is truly a poet in prose, as evidenced in other of her stories, and A Brush With Love is no exception. She gently draws the reader through the minds and soulscapes of the lead characters, Miranda and Michael, but also of other secondary figures, such as Patrick, the almost-stranger with whom Miranda experiences her first wildly-gratifying submissive fling. Certainly any reader is going to wish to keep a full ice bucket near at hand as it will be needed even before the first chapter can be completed!
