Lavender Prouty and a room mother took her five-year-old kindergarteners to the rodeo site to see the animals. While there, she caught the eye of a steer roper, Taylor Craig, who was gorgeous but much younger than her 30+ years. She was not interested because she had been hurt by almost everyone she had loved, including her own mother. She was raised by her grandmother, who hated rodeo types, because Lavender’s mother had run off with one and only showed up to see her mother and daughter every few years—and then only to stay a few days, get money and then leave again.

Lavender was a little too plump for men to notice her, but Taylor seemed to like his woman well rounded. She fought the attraction for a while, but she finally gave in to him and decided to have a fling. Then her mother came back for an extended stay. Her grandmother continued to show her dislike for the cute little cowboy who appeared down on his luck.

M.J. Fredrick had a great plot development and a wonderful storyline that kept my interest from the first page until I reluctantly closed the manuscript. This book had the more familiar scenario of younger man/older woman which I find so refreshing. Each had tear jerking backgrounds which they were uneasy about sharing with the other. It was much more forthcoming understanding Lavender’s problems; the fact that Taylor kept his background secret was a big part of this great story.

The characters were multi-dimensional and captivating. There were a myriad of other people involved which just enhanced this loving exchange between two wounded spirits. The differences in their backgrounds just improved their fairy-tale. The sensual parts of this book were beautifully written, but not offensive. I can promise you several surprises near the end, but a real shocker is at the very end.

I recommend this book to everyone whether or not you like rodeos and cowboys. It is a great book which you will be glad to have read.
