| Sam Hammett runs her family's business Paranormal Pest Pursuers, Inc. She is used to being the top company in town until a competitor, Monsters R' Us arrived from Russia and started stealing their best jobs. The Strakhov brothers seem to be using any means to beat Sam and her brother Bogie to the punch but Sam won't take that for long. Hijinks ensue and she heads off to rid a Vampire Prince's mansion of some pesky ghosts before Strakhov can beat her to it. When the Prince shows up Sam falls hard, for him! Things aren't what they seem and it turns out the handsome prince is really a Strakhov in disguise. Despite their differences, these two might find they have more in common than they thought as they're bustin' those ghosts.
Bustin' seemed like it would be good, a paranormal romance with a bit of comedy, something different in the vampire genre. The back cover blurb sounded promising. But I really did not enjoy this book. The comedy was completely overdone. Every single paragraph, every sentence, all dialogue, even down to the names and phrases used throughout the story were constant play on words or on old movies or characters or books. Satire is enjoyable but this level of the use of puns was exhausting, and soon became annoying. By the time I stopped trying to figure out what all the different references meant, I had lost all interest or sympathy for any of the characters. The level of work it took to infuse all these puns into the story must have been impressive. Time better spent developing sympathy for the characters and the world they inhabited, in my opinion. Obviously, some readers enjoy this style since I found there are a few books by Ms Webber with similar themes. Sam meets the hunk of her dreams when she's bustin the ghosts out of the Vampire Princes' castle, but a twist of fate has it turning out to be her biggest rival, Nicholas Strakhov. Despite the twists and turns you feel Sam and Nic will be happy. But I found it hard to keep track of who Sam was supposed to be impressing or tracking, and frankly my dear I no longer gave a damn. If you enjoy over-the-top, romantic satires you'll enjoy Bustin'.
