| Ann has finally found her niche in life. A very shy person, she only came to life on stage, and though she tried New York, she is really much happier teaching Drama and English at her old high school. This year they are putting on a production of Bye Bye Birdie. Ann starred in it in high school with local heartthrob Jason Skyler. Jason had dreams of his own; a baseball scholarship led to a career in major league baseball, now ended by a knee injury. Ann had a huge crush on Jason, only to be totally disillusioned the last night of their play. Now Jason is back in town to help his grandparents move and Ann has to prove to herself that she is over him.
In this story two high school almost sweethearts meet again. They are older now and mostly more mature. Ann has moved on from some really inappropriate childhood anger and Skyler is still very attracted to the beautiful Ann and hopes to spend some time with her while he is in town. Both characters have grown up quite a bit in the last eleven years. Ann has tried her dreams and found that they really lie in teaching at her old school. Jason’s dream ended with a knee injury and he has really just been drifting ever since. He has long considered his grandparents’ ranch nowhere, but now realizes that it is home and that he is in love with Ann. Ann is determined not to be hurt again, so he has a lot to overcome and really handles her well. The background of a high school musical is an inspired idea and the characters are very well written. Ann and Skyler’s love story is sensual and the love scenes are as well done as the plot. I also loved the students and Ann’s best friend Jeri, also a teacher. This is a really great story.
