| When Velma's dead boyfriend Leroy appear to her while she is dissecting his cadaver for a science fair, Leroy tells her a story about how he was murdered by a vampire, who drained all his blood. He demands that Velma avenge his death despite the homework she has to do. The only vampire Velma know is the dashingly handsome Dennis, but he wouldn't do that would he? Velma sets out to find who killed Leroy with the help of her best friend and roommate Evelyn and the vampire Dennis. Can she trust Dennis or is there another vampire out there killing people?
The was a witty and enjoyable story with a unique story line. The plot is somewhat original and while anyone will enjoy reading it, it is geared more towards teenage audiences. The story is told through the eyes and thoughts of Velma, a brainy senior in high school, who is trying to get into Harvard. The dialogue Velma offers up as well as the other characters is reminiscent of books by Katie MacAlister. I especially enjoyed the conversations between Velma and her roommate Evelyn. It is refreshing to read a good clean, humorous story that will really not offend anyone. The characters could be just about any teenager you know, I could envision my daughter and her friends having some of these conversation, aside from the fact that vampires are fictional. The plot did seem to drag in some places but that is not enough to make you stop reading. There are no adult situations so parents need not worry about who is reading this story. I think that the author has a great future in writing for younger adults as long she keeps doing what she is doing. This story was definitely a breath of fresh air considering what so many young adults are reading these days.
