Cady Montgomery's newest case for Crime Tells, her family's privateinvestigation firm, brings her into the world of horse racing…and intothe arms of Texas sheriff Kix Branaman. When Cady sits down to meetwith Adrienne McKay about the fact that Adrienne had her racinglicense revoked after five of her horses tested positive for cocaine, she meets Kix, a man who is sweeter than sin itself. Kix can't takehis eyes off Cady, who is a bit shy, a bit reserved, and all tootempting for him. As they start working on the case together, thingsheat up and the case becomes much more dangerous than either thoughtpossible. Kix isn't sure he wants Cady involved anymore.

From the moment she melted in his arms, Cady has started fallingheadlong into love with Kix Branaman. Though the case starts off onequal footing between them, she quickly comes to see that Kix isholding back information in his misguided attempt to keep her safe. Not only does this anger Cady, but it makes her wonder if she cantrust him with her heart, if he might just be possibly using her forinformational purposes only, with the side benefit of some bedroomgymnastics. Now it is up to Kix to prove to Cady that she has ropedhis heart and that he has no intention of letting her slip away fromhim. As new clues come to light in the horse racing case, the dangergrows and dead bodies start showing up. Kix is determined to protectand love Cady at all costs… but what if the cost is that he loses her?

Once again, Jory Strong creates a strong plot that enhances theattraction between the compelling protagonists. Kix is a good ol' boy.Though he never expects to fall in love, when he lays eyes on Cady, his heart is totally hers, a fact which makes his protectiveness anddeception throughout the story somewhat less chauvinistic. He merelywants to protect her, but Cady's strong independent nature doesn'tmake that easy for him. Cady is all too sweet, but she is also verysmart and very much in love. The eroticism of this story is based in apowerful and enduring love from the first time Cady and Kix make loveuntil the end. This second Crime Tells story is an excellent follow-upto Lyric's Cop and features many of the same characters, and some newfaces too. Ms. Strong continually surprises readers with her inventiveplots, thrilling romances, and believable characters. Don't miss this story!
