This is a beautifully written story of a Caesar, Laurentius, who had no love in his life, neither from his sister, Sylvia, who lived with him, nor his current companion, Tacita. It appeared he was destined to be betrayed by those who should love him. After all, Sylvia was jealous of him and her hatred showed; Tacita, who was determined to be his empress but impatiently, had taken a soldier to her bed. He felt there would never be anyone who loved him for himself.

While walking through the castle, he saw a small woman scrubbing the floors. She raised her hand to stop him from falling on the wet floor, but he thought she was telling him to go away. When he realized what she was doing, he had her brought to his bedchamber. Life certainly changed that day.

Penny Ash uses her knowledge of history to tell this interesting tale of two people who were both looking for someone to love. Even though a small, slave girl was brought to Caesar’s bedroom, the scene was told in such a way that his burning desire was not crude or embarrassing. She told a beautiful story of how each found the other; the obstacles were just that—burdens to be erased from memory.

Caesar’s Love is written in a concise way to ensure that all the details are given and the emotions are evident; the superbly told tale will make the reader thrilled to have found it. .
