| Chad Monroe, Air Force Major, was given a PCS (permanent change of station) from Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, as a flight instructor for the F15 Eagle planes. However, he also had another job, black operations undercover, which was so secret that only his immediate supervisor, General Covington, the President, and two other high officials were aware of it. He had been trained to “steal” the F16 Viper plane, fly it to Cancun and train their pilots to fly it. If he failed his mission, he would be branded a traitor.
The General’s daughter, Casey Wilkes, struggled to stand on her own two feet and not allow her dad to take care of her and her four-year-old son, Jackson. Her ex-husband, Brian, ran away with another woman and blamed it on Casey. Their divorce was not final because he refused to pay child support. She worked as assistant manager of The Cockpit, the local bar where most of the pilots hung out. At work one night, she saw Chad being entertained by some of his well-known buddies. The attraction was intense. However, because of Brian’s defection, she would never love again—especially another Air Force pilot. This book has so much packed into it that there was never a dull moment or a page that could be overlooked. This couple had so much baggage that it was amazing that they could ever get together, even short term. These characters were under pressure but made the reader pay attention to them. From the stalker who followed Chad constantly, to the one who broke into Casey’s home and stole little trivial items, the supporting characters were solid and just reinforced the relationships. The conversations were sketchy at first and sensual later. Chad’s relationship with Jackson was sweet and brought to life what adding a child into the mix can do for a budding romance. I truly loved this book and highly recommend it for anyone who likes a fast-paced (not short) book. It truly is a great military romance with a surprise ending.
