Working as a nurse at a refugee camp in Africa, Caly knows that things can turn very dangerous very fast if one of the warring leaders decides that he wants her and her skills. So she's been living in a hidey hole under a shack just in case that happens. What she never expected was that when the time came to use her abilities. There would be a wounded lion resting on top of her trap door. Somehow, even knowing she has only moments to hide, Caly finds she's drawn to help the lion, and against common judgment, she even trusts him to let him into her hiding place and to come in with her. However, as intelligent as her lion seems, she's still not prepared when she wakes up and finds he's transformed into a man, especially when that man seems to consider Caly his mate. But between the constant danger to Caly and Jax's mission to find his missing friend, can they manage to find a future together?

I really enjoyed this book. It's the third book in the Lions of the Serengeti series, and considering I haven't read the previous books and liked this one, it can easily be read on it's own. Although it did make me wonder about the previous ones, so now I may have to go back and read them, just because this was such a good book, and I really liked the author's writing style. It also felt a bit different from the usual shifter books that I've read which was a refreshing change. I don't think I've ever read another book set in Africa, and I really liked the fact that it wasn't a romanticized Africa. However, Jax is another story. He's all man with a bit of romance thrown in. The only other thing I need to point out, is that there isn't really a lot of sex in the book. What is there is written wonderfully and darn good fun to read.
