| Julie Bennett has had enough of others mistaking her kindness as a weakness. However, she just continues to keep the status quo until her cousin goes one step too far. She decides to make some changes and go after what she wants in her life. One of the things she wants most is her boss, Gabriel Carland. Gabriel has secretly wanted Julie since he first met her. Now that she's ready to take her life in a new direction, Gabriel wants to ensure that she brings him along for the ride.
I am a huge fan of Ms. Vaughn but this book was not her best or her worst. It was a pleasant but predictable read. The premise was very intriguing and mostly delivered what it promised. However, I did not enjoy it as much as I expected. I think this was mainly due to the fact that the story was very predictable. I think that the most bothersome portion was how quickly Julie changed from her old personality to a self-assured and assertive individual. While I loved the fact that she changed and grew as a character, it seemed superficial as it seemed to happen overnight. It was also coincidently when she met Gabriel. I felt Gabriel was more interested in changing her into who he felt she should be rather than accepting her as she was. While it could be argued that he was just being supportive and assisting her in achieving her goals but I did not feel that way. Nonetheless, I did find the story engrossing as I loved the interplay between the characters when they were not discussing how Julie should adapt. The sexual scenes are very graphic and imaginative. Overall, the story was well written but too quickly paced with no surprises or mystery. As a result, I only found the story to be average.
