| Candy has pretty much lost everything in her old life. Her apartment was burglarized, she was fired from her job, and she found her fiancé cheating on her with his secretary. So, she takes what’s left of her savings and goes home to start over. She rents a rundown cottage for the summer and gets herself organized to start her own business. Determined not to be fooled again in love, she is looking for a trainable, loyal lover. She also has much to do as her friend Audra’s maid of honor. She arrives at her new home, such as it is, only to be tackled by big bad Detective Mitch Hammond, the man who rejected her ten years ago. Mitch has no intention to reject her now and is interviewing for the available position.
From the first erotically charged scene to the last, this suspenseful story will hold and keep your attention. Candy and Mitch are one hot couple whose attraction to each other leads to some extraordinarily well written love scenes. Candy is a great character, independent and beautiful and trying to regain her confidence after the debacle of her life in Chicago. I love how she dubs Mitch T-Rex; the nickname certainly suits the overbearing cop of the first scenes. Mitch has a softer side and some insecurities of his own and the author really handles this well. Candy’s well-meaning friend Audra sets her up with the reason for her prior embarrassment and that replay of prom night was very interesting. The author does a wonderful job of creating memorable and real characters with great attention to detail, even to the fact that men, particularly male cops are much bigger gossips than women, yes it is true. The suspenseful subplot of who is after Candy only adds to the fun.
