| After a disastrous romance and the loss of a high-powered job in Seattle, Jenny Ortiz returns to Serenity, Utah. She wants a renewed sense of self and believes she can attain this by running the white water rafting business left to her by her uncle. She doesn't expect to find John Macklin (Mack) there, still involved in the same type of business as when she knew him nine years earlier. She'd lost her heart to him once and doesn't want to do that again. Mack was hurt when she left all those years ago without a word, and is determined to stay away from her. Neither is able keep their promises to themselves to keep away from each other, and fall in love all over again. Complications arise because of Jenny's failing business and Mack's wish to buy her out. Jenny finally gives up, sells out to Mack and leaves. They each realize they truly love one another, but will they get back together again?
This beautifully written book captured me immediately. The author does an in depth and wonderful job of describing the canyon area, as well as the emotions and characteristics of the characters. Jenny's past failures with men, which she believes includes Mack, explains why she believes he wants one main thing—her business, along with her body. The author brings out quite well that Mack was hurt when Jenny left without a word, and believes she will do so again. She weaves their desires and doubts into the story very well. The secondary characters are absolutely wonderful, and quite varied. I loved the spunk of the young boy, laughed at some of his antics, and thoroughly enjoyed the way he managed to get his way both from Jenny and Mack. I also loved the way the author brought Jenny and Mack together at the end, and especially appreciated the sense of humor throughout the book. This is another book I had to read in one sitting. I would definitely read another by this author.
