May 2008 - Rebecca Burke was driving her Volkswagon on coast highway near Crescent City when she saw a person in her back seat. She screamed, pulled the car over and looked in the back. No one was there. She tried to start her car back up and found it dead. She called a tow truck. She retrieved her camera from the trunk and looked around for something interesting to take a picture of and spotted a weather-beaten lighthouse on a large jutting rock.

June 1948 - Lighthouse near Crescent City - A Hollywood movie, Cape Seduction was being filmed on location. Darla Foster and Jordan Kent were starring in the murder mystery. But there was a drama unfolding behind the scenes which was more seductive. Twenty year old Darla had a large crush on her co-star and planned on seducing him. Jordan was fascinated by Darla but there was a problem -- he was married. His wife was Cecelia Bregman, the producer's daughter. If Jordan became involved with Darla, his career would be over.

This story was a mystery within a mystery and a story within a story. Sounds confusing but the author did a fabulous job of keeping the plot moving smoothly between 2008 and 1948. I loved reading about old Hollywood. I had a clear picture of old time movie stars sitting around with shots of bourbon and clouds of cigarette smoke discussing their next movie. Their lives seemed so seductive with a lot of back stabbing. I'm a history buff and I believe everything has a story. Rebecca was drawn to the lighthouse without knowing why. I would be drawn to it because of the story behind it. This was a very absorbing story.
