| Steve Miller thinks Mark Richfield is going to walk away with an account he’s been working to get for years. He can’t stand the site of the Brit. His coworkers and boss decide they’re going to make them get along one way or another. Little do they know when they get the two lost in the desert how well their plot will work.
G. A. Hauser has done it again. This time her two lovers go from enemies to lovers. She’s done a great job setting up this tale. Both have a past with families who are homophobic. For Steve it’s his Dad but he has a supportive sister. Mark’s life is much more complicated. He lives with a gay man who wants him but doesn’t return the feelings. Marriage to a woman he loved at one time but who harasses him every chance she gets now, seems to be happening against his will. Ms. Hauser paints both men, their feelings, their work ethics, their lives with great attention to details. Fiancée Sharon feels like a shrew to me. The coworkers who goad the men constantly about their feelings are well done. Roland, the retiring partner, is great. Steve’s sister and brother-in-law are gems. It’s easy to see these people as we read because this author paints them into reality with her words. Both men go through a depth of soul searching that binds us closer to them with Ms. Hauser’s excellent writing. I think she does a superb job of building up the possibilities open to the characters. She lets the decision they may make hang in the balance while we watch them cope. We know the ending is the right one because we just know what these two great guys are making their choice after searching their heart and soul. This is great romance.
