| Alexis Carver and her brother Jack grew up on foster homes, longing for a real family. Jack was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan two years ago, and Lexie has spent the time developing the Eagle Eye Friend or Foe System to prevent such deaths in the future.
Lexie and Dynacore lobbyist Sally Masterson are on Capitol Hill, trying for funding. Lexie is passionate about her work, but unskilled in this arena. Navy Captain Reid Townsend turns them down, but the sparks of physical attraction fly. Lexie has been burned by Ben Cunningham, a man she thought she loved, but who turned out to have a wife and kids. Reid was left at the altar by Jada, a career girl who thought more of her job than she did of him. Reid wants a long term marriage like the one his parents had, but he is now afraid to trust any career girl. Now Lexie’s system is of interest to others outside the US government. She is followed and assaulted. When Lexie’s life is on the line, Reid rushes in and romance flourishes. Arms smuggling and espionage form the backdrop for this well-written novel. Author Worley does a great job both concealing and revealing the bad guys. The characters are believable and the depictions of Washington, DC, and DARPA (Defense Advance Research Projects Agency) are fascinating. It seems that no one is quite what they seem to be in the nation’s capital. This is an absorbing story of suspense and enjoyable tale of romance.
