Captain Devlin’s Captive

In June 1692, Jasabel Buchanan was being held captive along with her “mistress,” Miss Felicity Chittingham. They were on a pirate’s ship, but there was no need for her to scream—no one would have heard her above Miss Felicity’s own vocals! The two ladies were sailing with their own crew on the Rebecca when they were overtaken by another ship flying a red flag—pirates! Their crew apparently just quietly gave themselves up and came aboard the Tyger.

Miss Felicity loved to scream and make demands; the fact that she could was all the reason she needed for rebuffing, slapping, and verbally abusing Jasabel. When they met Captain Neil Devlin, the devil’s pirate, and he preferred Jasabel that just gave Miss Felicity more reasons to hate her maid. Captain Devlin and his first mate, McCrea, had been prisoners of Miss Felicity’s father. Governor Chittingham of Bermuda did not use his own money when he prepared to rescue his daughter and her maid. A fellow pirate (a rival) beat Captain Devlin to the rendezvous location. What transpired there created the continued drama of this beautifully-written love story.

The major players in this fast-paced, suspenseful novel were intense, even likeable, with ideals leaning toward obtaining as much money as possible—and that does not include the crew of the Tyger! So many things happened to these people that it created this book which grabbed my attention and would not let go. I highly recommend that you read this book which includes, not only some “robin-hood” like activities of the high seas, but also a charming romance.
