| Jarod is the scion of the Dio Pantera. The Dio Pantera were once shapeshifters, but time and intermarriage with ordinary humans has lost them the ability to change. Jarod's family has done an intensive genealogical search to find him the perfect mate. She is now in his house awaiting the joining ceremony. Maggie has been told by her uncle that she is to be married, but not to whom. She was taken from her home by strangers, tied up, and brought to a New Orleans mansion to await her fate. Fate doesn't look too bad when Jarod feels her distress and rushes in to free her.
The author gives us an interesting concept, a shapeshifting clan that has lost the ability to change, and their attempts to get that skill back. Jarod still retains many of the panther's traits such as acute hearing and sense of smell. Given Maggie's reaction to the joining, I want to read on and find out if Jarod regains the ability to shift. This is a well-written tale that grabbed me from the first paragraph and didn't disappoint as I read further
