| Christiana, daughter of Michael, the Earl of Gladsbury, prefers to dress as a young boy instead of the chatelaine and heiress of Gladsbury. That is until her father insists she do so. However, in doing so she further attracts the unwanted attentions of Sir Guy, her father's first knight and the knight most likely to become her betrothed.
The Dark Knight beats Sir Guy at tournament and becomes one of the earl's new knights, then saves his life in a fight and keeps him from becoming a hostage. Soon after, Sir Rowan swears his loyalty and arms to the earl and Christiana begins to see some merit in being a girl. Sir Rowan de Veau, the 5th son of an Earl of Normandy, is out to gain lands to secure the hand of his love awaiting him in Normandy. But he soon finds his heart is divided between old memories of the lady waiting in Normandy and the lovely daughter of the Earl of Gladsbury. She too is highly attracted to the handsome young, blond knight. In fact, Christiana would rather be betrothed to Sir Rowan than Sir Guy. Knight of the Captive Heart is the story of a young girl's journey from childhood to womanhood, falling in love, and assuming the responsibilities of her station in life during the days of knights, jousts and women who must marry the men their father choose. Ms. Valdez has written a story of knighthood and love, of hearts torn between two women and the man who must chose between the values that are truly important. A tale of the times, in the days of knights and lands to be won with the love of a fair maiden's hand and the treachery of one knight to have it all regardless of love. A good saga of romance in the days of damsels in distress and knights that come to their rescue and win a kingdom for their efforts.
