In the year 1100 A.D., Aeschine of Scotland runs through the bogs determined to escape the cruel beatings of her betrothed, LaTourne. Raised in a convent, she swears she will do anything, commit any sin, to avoid the future confronting her. A future filled with the depraved lusts of a known pedophile and sadist.

Geoffrey de Sage is on a quest for revenge. Suspecting LaTourne to be responsible for an act of treason that culminated in slaying an entire village, including Sage’s wife, he seeks evidence and revenge. Aeschine’s escape makes kidnapping her incredibly easy. Aeschine is determined be rid of her virginity, for it is only her maidenhood that interested LaTourne. The sight of her nude body makes Sage decide to forego his celibacy in order to exact revenge on LaTourne by violating his betrothed. After all, she must be well used after being in the company of LaTourne. But how can he fulfill his vow of vengeance when Aeschine takes every sexual perversion and turns it into an act of love? How can he accept her love when he has never believed in the emotion?

Captive, by Louisa Trent, is an historical romance filled with passion, love and revenge. The historical detail and accuracy denote an author well-versed in the time period. A wonderful, at times even lyrical, read. I highly recommend it.
