Princess Maya of Cali with many of the people of her city are taken captive when the warriors of King Yaque of Tupla take the unprepared city. The King spares no expense in making the princess and her maid comfortable. The two hit it off in the bedroom but Maya wants more. Her arranged marriage had been empty, frustrating. She did not want to just be a part of this King’s harem, she wanted to be special to him.

Jan Minter writes a great story of two people whose bedroom antics are erotic. King Yaque is built as an interesting man given the fact that he was part of an ancient culture. He actually asks the opinion of this captive and takes her advice in things that can help his people. Maya is also unique in the time written about. She had a weak husband but manages to be in touch with the world, the people and their strengths. She’s great as a caring person who doesn’t act like she’s too good for the people who serve her. Of course, the action of the team competition is suspenseful since it could gain the team from Cali their freedom.

Ms. Minter does a great job building a couple who could be an excellent example of a relationship in ancient times or the present. This was well worth the read.
