| After being kidnapped, imprisoned, tortured, and threatened for more to be done to her, Meg Wentworth escapes her captor, only to be captured by a sexy British officer, Lucien Archer. He accuses her of being a French spy and convincing him otherwise is not an easy thing to do. On the run trying to stop an old enemy of Lucien’s, they find themselves very attracted to each other and both wants more than the façade of lovers that they are presenting to society. The passion that burns between them is the perfect lure to draw out their enemy, but will they survive?
Interesting characters bring this book to life. Lucien, Meg, his friend and co-officer Ian, and so many others add special little qualities to this story. I hope that in subsequent stories of this series we will get stories for some of the other characters. Lucien’s self-control is legendary, and yet Meg’s innocent sensuality and understanding breaks through and tests his control every step of the way. The battle for control and supremacy in their relationship made for a lot of explosive scenes, both of a sensual nature and a business nature. Being caught in the political unrest between Britain and France, keeps a constant air of danger around Meg and Lucien. Throw in a personal enemy with a very personal vendetta and the tension is ramped up even higher. Meg has resigned herself to living life peacefully outside the drama and bright lights of society. But she must learn how to navigate the circles of society for their mission. Fabienne, Lucian’s long-time friend and co-spy, prepares Meg for entering society and how to get information without drawing attention to herself. Meg’s strong will and upfront attitude still manages to bring her plenty of attention, and not all of it is wanted. If you are looking for a great historical book full of intrigue and danger, with loads of hot sex, this is one book you’ve got to read.
