Leah Jones and Trip Cartwright grew up living next to each other; their backyards were connected. She lived in the parsonage with her father, the pastor of their local church and he lived in a mansion with his father and mother who never showed love or affection. Trip learned early to depend on Pastor Jones for his consultation. Pastor Jones never wavered in trying to show him how to follow God’s lead and how to survive his un-family-like home atmosphere.

Leah’s father had died from a heart attack and she was responsible for her cousins’ three-year-old daughter, Melissa, whose parents had been killed in a car accident when hit by Trip’s drunken mother. With Leah’s luck so bad, Trip could not help but feel responsible for her misfortune so he asked her to marry him. Leah had loved him forever, but she had to be convinced she had no other resources.

Ms. Katy King as written a novel about both the love of God and true commitment to friends and family; the characters are expressed in such a way that it is almost impossible not to either love them or find compassion for those of lesser integrity. Both Leah and Trip have been in love with each other forevershe is well aware of her love, he has no clue. Missy, in her three-year-old manner, has gone from expressing herself as “I” to “ít” since the accident. The interactions with her were impressively written. There was an element of heartrending feelings, but there was also gripping components written in. This author has written a book that is never boring and the action comes from several angles at once.

The Cartwright Heritage was a honor to read. It demonstrated Christian principles without being preachy or over-the-top pushy. I liked the way the story ended, although it was not quite the ending I expected. I recommend it highly. It is a refreshing love story unfolded without bolding explaining the bedroom scenes.
