| Liz Adams worked for social services in a rough area of Denver. Frequently she needed police backup. She always got it and, most of the time, it was Alex Demas who responded. Liz had a strong faith in God, but she felt that, while Alex was knowledgeable on the subject, he didn’t seem to turn to God for help. It soon became obvious to their co-workers that the two of them were attracted to each other. However, because of past experiences they were both skeptical about embarking on a new relationship.
When Liz went into a home to remove two precious boys, she was threatened by their father. The next day she went back to the apartment complex to talk to the one who made the call. That time she was attacked. Every time she was in danger, Alex determined to keep a closer watch on her. This situation would plague Liz throughout the book. It was obvious that Ms. Beth Shriver knows of which she speaks. She went into some interesting details that she knew because she is a former social worker. The drug situations that she faced, I’m sure, prepared her for writing those suspenseful scenes. Her two main characters—Alex and Liz—were dynamic, sweet personalities which endeared them and their potential relationship to me. The two main characters had personalities which made their supporting a dynamic part of the storyline. Their faith in God was beautifully written. It was not, however, done in a preachy manner and would certainly not offend a reader. The action was non-stop and totally unpredictable. There were laughing parts and portions which would make almost anyone cry. The story was sweetly written and proved that a great story does not have to have open sexual activity to be very enjoyable. I am glad to be introduced to Beth Shriver’s writings. I recommend this book to everyone. There is a great ending, but I was surprised.
