Catching Shadows is a time-travel romance that begins in present day. In this story Charity is on vacation at the seashore trying to get over a divorce from a bad marriage. She begins to see things in the house and thinks it's just shadows. Later on, she becomes convinced the house is haunted. As the story progresses, she will be taken back in time to the year 1887. In 1887, she meets a man named Jacob and his daughter. Things are not as they should be here. There will be a mystery to solve before this story is finished.

Jewel Adams has provided us with another wonderful time-travel romance. She captures the era of 1887 perfectly through her descriptive writing. The sights and sounds come to life for the reader as she set her scenes. The characters are fully developed in physical appearance and personalities. Charity, who just wanted a happy marriage and children, is recovering emotionally from divorce. Jacob is a man with a daughter but whose wife has gone missing. You will understand the characters and grow to care about them as you read. The dialogue is well written and will have you feeling you are there as the story plays out. The plot is creative and is fully explained by the conclusion of the story. The mystery will have you guessing until the very end. The romantic aspects of the story vary at times. The initial intimate encounter is violent and borders on rape. This is explained in the story and is understood. The actual tone of the romance gives a feeling of desperation. This is an extremely passionate story and the sex is explicit. I feel if you are a fan of paranormal mysteries you will enjoy this book. For all the above stated reasons I give, ' Catching Shadows', five hearts.
