| Wesley Cole was in the midst of the confederate soldiers who were spreading out in anticipation of battle near the Ni River. When he saw a house in the distance, he decided to use it for protection. He went into the house, saw the fire was cold, and went upstairs. He was surprised to find a gun pointed at him and see a woman’s skirt within his vision. She told him to leave his gun and get out; he assured her she was in danger. Upon hearing his voice, Abby recognized him and faced him. He was as shocked as she was to find her there along with a surprise!
Wes had never gotten over his love for Abby even though she had written him a horrific letter accusing him of the responsibility of her brother, Matthew’s, death. He still loved her, but he would forever blame himself for running to the back of the line. Then he realized the Yankees were approaching the house and he had to get them to safety! Ms. Kathy Otten has written a compelling tale which took place in the midst of the Civil War. No one I have previously read has been able to put the reader in the middle of the war and show extensive action in so few words. I am impressed with her ability and the depth she has portrayed in her story. I recommend it to anyone who wants a quick read that tells a gripping saga.
