| Sophie knew she was mediumistic by age seven, but in the midst of a devout and strict Catholic family, her talents weren't acceptable. When she discovered the medieval female mystics who combined sexual longings with their far-seeing gifts and wrapped the entire package in threads of spirituality, Sophie thought she had come home at last. She joined the convent at eighteen, and discovered all wasn't quite as she'd hoped, so ten years later she exited and took up life as an announced medium and psychic. When she unintentionally summons a sadistic incubus, Sophie realises she needs advice, and turns to her stable spirit guide, Esme, who informs Sophie that her pent-up longings are causing mating calls to go out on the astral plane. Sophie must find someone with whom she can bond: mentally, emotionally, and sensually, Esme admonishes.
Esme's solution is for Sophie to enter into a Cemetery Dance, and in order to follow the correct procedure, Sophie is led first to a wise practitioner, then to an Adept practitioner of Ceremonial High Magick, then to a secluded old cemetery at night. Fog Cliff Cemetery has long been thought by locals to be haunted, and at minimum, its rocky cliff, foggy tendrils, and spooky noises provide sufficient atmospheric backdrop. Sophie hopes for simply performing the Cemetery Dance on an appropriate tombstone, reaching fulfillment, and then gently banishing her temporary ghostly partner. Cemetery Dancer is a thrilling story which works well at Halloween or any season K. Z. Snow gives an excellent background and grounding for the reader in all sorts of paranormal avenues from mediumistic gifts to vodou to ceremonial magick to witchcraft and beyond. There is never a dull or boring moment in this story.
