| Anan Septinius was forced to submit to Roman rule over her homeland but she feels nothing but contempt for her conquerors. Unfortunately, she must deal with the two arrogant and domineering centurions sent to serve as her personal guard. Cassius and Titus are ordered to the barbaric post in Siga, in part, as punishment for their involvement in a recent scandal. Friends and lovers, both men expect to find a bitter, old widow. They are completely caught off guard by Anan's beauty, intelligence and vulnerability. Although enemies, the three are caught up in a blinding passion. They must survive deadly plots and outside threats if they are to find the trust they need to heal each other.
Anan has endured a loveless, passionless marriage and believes no man would find her attractive but sparks fly from her very first meeting with the two sexy, infuriating centurions. The heat continues to rise as the three clash until it explodes into an all-consuming conflagration. The two men already have an intimate relationship and Anan adds a new depth to it. Against a background of danger and betrayal, Cassius, Titus and Anan must their fight own prejudices and personal demons. The build-up to their first sexual encounter is excruciatingly detailed. I was completely pulled into their erotic dance. Ms. Aiden writes menages sex scenes that are scorching but she does not allow the reader to forget those involved. They are not just bodies but distinct individuals coming together. Cassius and Titus' relationship is a fascinating blend of dominance and submission. Anan adds a new new dimension with her acceptance of them. The plot continues to play itself out as the three face their increasing feelings for each other and an uncertain future. I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy read. A nice, hot historical romance!
