| Orlando Garland, 7th Earl of Blyth, knew he needed to marry and produce and heir. He was, however, in no hurry. He was much more concerned about his sister, Perdita, who was bedridden following a riding accident in which she broke both her legs. The doctor said she would never again walk. His dilemma with Perdita took most of his time. He was determined that she would get the best of care.
Violetta Palagio, daughter of the well-known courtesan in London, was tired of not being accepted by others because of the reputation of her mother. Her Uncle Lucius and her deceased father’s family preferred she stay with them in Italy, but Violetta wanted to be near her mother. She never appeared in public without a mask. When she decided to seek the position as companion to Lady Perdita, she completely transformed herself with padding, wig and glasses. She wore clothing that she normally would never even touch. Ms. Lynne Connolly has, once again, penned another fabulous book. She has two main characters who are mind-gripping alpha personalities that make it impossible to put the book down. She presented this companion, known as Charlotte Lambert, as a quiet, docile woman who was determined to assist Lady Perdita in getting out of her invalid chair. She delved into how this companion would master her mistress’ abilities and also fight her attraction to Orlando. Perdita’s best friend, Judith, was a personality unlike any other. The strong domination existing within this minor cast member was two-fold. She was obsessed with marrying Orlando, and she took all credit for everything good that her friend was able to do. The in-depth study of the minor characters was so well written. Ms. Connolly mastered these personality studies like few others are capable of doing. This book was suspenseful as well as poignant. It covered deep feelings of the main couple, but it never failed to flow masterly. I absolutely loved this book, number 2 in her series. I cannot wait to see what is ahead. I wholeheartedly recommend this one to any and everyone.
