| Getting a long-term substitute teaching position at Summit High School for a semester is nice, but Jessica Martin will be satisfied with nothing less than a permanent teaching job. Staying focused on that goal means she doesn't have time for the attraction that flares up between her and Tom Cameron, the school's security officer. Tom isn't looking for romance any more than Jessica is. He does his best to avoid her, but a friendly gesture leads to more than either of them bargained for. They may just have to accept that they're meant to be together when they're both needed to prevent a tragedy.
Who isn't a little nervous on their first day at a new job? Jessica's nerves aren't helped by Tom's mistaken assumption that she's a truant student or the tingling sensation she feels when she shakes his hand. But Jessica is not the only one left with a tingling feeling. With that less than auspicious beginning, it's no wonder that neither one is all that enthused about the possibility of running into each other every day at work. But neither of them can deny the sizzling chemistry between them either. Sparks fly any time they're in the same room, and the scenes between them are extremely steamy, though they do have some really tender moments as well. Kate Davies has written a fun story with entertaining characters. Jessica and Tom complement each other well and it is fun to watch their resistance to a relationship crumble. The fact that the main obstacle to their relationship is their need to stay focused on their jobs is just another thing that makes them so perfect for each other. There are some interesting twists at the end of the story, but they fit quite nicely and do a good job of highlighting the type of characters Tom and Jessica are.
