| Chance McCord was a stranger in a town that was formerly his home. In a diner during a rainstorm, he was captivated by a young woman who told him to "move over" so that she could sit next to her son at the counter. Casey Girard and her son, seven-year-old Jamie, had come to town to the bookstore. The storm forced the mother-son duo into an unplanned stop for a snack and shelter. Chance conversation with the man named Chance left more questions than answers, but Chance knew about the place where they were staying and the people she was working with. Casey was overwhelmed when she found out that he was the "prodigal son" to Justin McCord, Chance's father whom he had not seen in 5 years.
The next morning when Chance emerged on the ranch, the tension was incredibly strong. Justin, his father, appeared to gladly accept his appearance. His brother, Kyle, was another matter. Throughout the book the brothers were apprehensive concerning each other. Casey and Jamie were staying with her Aunt Billie who had worked for Justin McCord for over 40 years. Her husband, Sam, had died the previous year. Casey came from Michigan to Wyoming to help her and work with Justin to write a book. The research she was required to do was easy because of her librarian background. Chance refused to move into the house, choosing to stay in the bunkhouse with the other cowboys. As he and Casey were thrown together more, their feelings were obvious but each was afraid to commit to the other. I truly enjoyed this book; it was a winner which followed the lives of Casey and Chance without becoming boring. There are a lot of historical facts available concerning the State of Wyoming. This book is not historical; it is just an old fashioned Western inspirational romance. There is plenty of romance, just understated. This book by Ms.Kubash is a must-read for all. There is something that a reader of any genre could enjoy. I highly recommend you read this success!
