Jasie and her husband Michael love each other very much, and they show it in the way they normally embrace each other after they've been apart, and even the way they talk to each other on the phone. This all changes, however, when Michael returns from a business trip. At night, he lays stiff in the bed beside her, and he won't even touch her during the day. Jasie and her best friend suspect he's having a mid-life crisis...or an affair. But Jasie also senses something else and then she makes a bizarre discovery after Michael leaves to buy more broccoli -- he's definitely not having an affair. So, what has changed him?

Stephanie Bedwell-Grime has written an engaging novella that in this reviewer's opinion should have been a novel instead. I don't want to give anything away here, but I will admit that I figured out the issue with Michael from the beginning, and I kept waiting for Jasie to figure it out as well. When everything finally becomes clear to her, I felt the story was just beginning, not ending. I wanted to know more about Jasie's discovery and how it had affected her husband. I simply wanted more. Despite that, I enjoyed Ms. Bedwell-Grimes story and read it straight through without stopping. Once I started it, I had to know how it was going to end.

In some ways, the ending was a surprise for me (because I wanted and thought there was going to be more), but for the story Ms. Bedwell-Grime was telling, I don't think it could have ended any other way. I recommend this very quick read to anyone who enjoys "marriage on the rocks" stories with a touch of the unusual. You may even find yourself surprised by the ending as well.
