Nikki Taylor is attacked and nearly killed by a group of men and after decides to hide herself away and trust no one. Eli Graham returns home and is determined that he will finally have the woman that he has always wanted. The harsh awakening comes when he finds out that Nikki was attacked and nearly killed and now has a fear of men and some serious trust issues. Even more disturbing is the fact that she has witnessed a murder and now the man responsible is out to make sure she never tells what she saw. Can Eli keep Nikki safe and claim the mate he’s always wanted?

Checkmate is an intriguing read and will keep you hooked from page one. Nikki is a courageous woman and her bravery does not go unnoticed. Eli is strong and a complete alpha male in every way. He intends to keep his woman safe from all those who seek to hurt her. I loved the interaction between Nikki and Eli, it is a touchy subject but AnnMarie McKenna handled it with grace and aplomb. Nikki’s protective family makes a perfect addition to the plot and this was a well thought out story with plenty of hooks to draw your attention. Loves scenes had a tenderness that couldn’t be touched and is sure to touch readers. AnnMarie McKenna is sure to gain many more fans with this wonderful story of trust and love.
