| It is Ireland 1630 and Dylan McTavish is the High Clan Chief. There has been a war between the McTavish Clan and the Roche Clan for years resulting in many deaths. Because of England’s war with France and Spain, King Charles I is unable to spend time managing feuding clans. Dylan has come up with a plan to stop the fighting for good. He will kidnap Brian the Butcher’s daughter Evelyn and wed her. Once she is wedded and bedded surely there will be peace. That is what Dylan thinks before he meets Evelyn and finds she is nothing like the stories that exist about her evil ways. Evelyn has never met her father, upon the death of the aunt that raised her; she goes to introduce herself to him but is kidnapped before she gets the chance. She knows nothing about the feud going on between the McTavish and Roche clans. All she knows is that the handsome Dylan is now her husband and she likes his kisses almost as much as a newborn puppy.
The Clan Chief, A Dragon, and Evelyn, the title, refers to Dylan as the clan chief, a dragon is Evelyn’s great-grandmother, and of course Evelyn. The characters make a most creative and delightful story by Aysel Arwen. In this story of colorful characters the reader sees how events shape a person’s thoughts and their actions making them the people they are. Dylan wants peace going as far as marrying a woman he considers evil to ensure the safety of his clan. He is a warrior but he has never hurt a woman and finds it difficult to control the actions of his new wife. Her behavior leaves him shaking his head at times not knowing what to do. This just makes him seem kinder and adds humor to the story. Evelyn is a woman that is most happy when she is in the barn with animals. She just wants to be liked by the people of the clan and loved by her husband. She understands why people treat her as the enemy after hearing the stories about her father. She, however, cannot imagine her father as “The Butcher.” She does not judge others until she has the whole story. Although this character seems the most simple in ways she proves to be quite intelligent and brave. Intriguing is the reason why Evelyn has the reputation as a wanton woman guilty of countless cruelties including murder. Making the plot of the story to find out the truth about Evelyn. This is developed fully and all questions answered in a creative manner. Aysel Arwen bases her story around two wonderful characters that create an innovative tale filled with intrigue and romance. This story will leave you smiling and feeling sorry for all the evil done to both of the families involved.
