| Carrie Woods has spent all her money traveling to China to find the proof she needs for her thesis. Now on the last day, on her last visit to the monastery she has the document she is looking for, but she is out of time. She knocks some scrolls over trying to take pictures of the manuscript and then throws them into her bag to escape detection. Fleeing home she promises herself she will return the “borrowed” scrolls as soon as her paper is through. The only person at the monastery who seems to notice anything is wrong is a mysterious monk who has been watching her every time she has visited. Maximillian Prescott is a guardian and knows exactly what Carrie has stolen and he is determined stop whatever evil plan Carrie has for the scrolls and return them to the monastery. He is even more certain that he is right and Carrie is up to no good when he discovers she knows his archrival Rhys Llewellyn.
Chosen by Desire is the second book of The Guardians of Destiny series. I recommend reading the first book in this series, Marked by Passion, before reading this one. The main characters of the first book are Carrie's best friend and Max's archrival. There is a good explanation of what the Guardian's are and how their powers are passed to them that is helpful background information for this book. I love Carrie's kind of ditsy, yet very intelligent and studious characterization. She is the perfect opposite of Max's intense, driven personality and pitting these two against each other despite their mutual attraction is great fun. Of course there is an evil bad guy around determined to take away the scrolls that means Carrie's life is at risk and even when Max thinks Carrie is up to know good, he doesn't want her hurt. I enjoyed the number of situations in this story that appear to be one way, yet turn out to be totally different from what the character's think. This is a story that will keep you on your toes. If you liked the first Guardians of Destiny book, I think this one is even better. I think this series has a delightfully different twist to the “norm” in paranormal romance and I can't wait to read what happens in book three!
