| Becoming a serial killer's next victim is the last thing that Detective Regan Pescoli thought would happen to her. After months of working on the case, she knows just what the killer is capable of and is equally determined not to die. Thoughts of her two children inspire her not give up. So does the man she’s spent time with because she realizes that their casual fling has turned into more.
From the onset, the story is set at a fast pace as the heroine is captured by the killer. She’s daring, courageous, and her struggles to escape will have the reader hoping she’ll find a way. Regan’s partner, Selena Alvarez, is tenacious and refuses to believe that they won’t find Regan in time. She’ll even listen to the town's eccentrics if gets her closer to finding Regan before it’s too late. Then comes Nate Santana, Regan has gotten to him, their no strings relationship was fine but now with her kidnapping, he won’t rest until she’s found. Added to this mix is an ex husband, his new wife, and Regan’s two teenage children. This plot driven novel is riveting. Some really sneaky twists and turns will keep the pages turning rapidly. Lisa Jackson, known for her formidable romantic suspense, has upped the anti in this thriller. The primary focus is Regan and her escape and the clues he leaves for those trying to find her at the scene of each subsequent victim. She keeps the reader guessing — and just when you think you know who the killer is, she sideswipes you with another unexpected move. I will point out that the emphasis in this novel is not romance though there is an HEA that pleased me. However, there was one element to this novel, which I found particularly jarring and at times annoying. The killer’s point of view is told in first person, the first time it happened it knocked me back, butgradually I did get use to it. But for me it took what was an excellent novel to a good one.
