Dare Lancaster is the private investigator, in Bisbee, Arizona, hired by a long, lost cousin to locate Lyra Collins. Something didn’t feel right. Dare visited Lyra to be certain she wanted to be found. When he used her name, her face turned deathly pale. As Dare drove away he realized he’d led a vanload of big men right to her door. He went back to help her. To save her, he dragged her out still biting, kicking and screaming. He got a few new bruises while trying to convince her he was on her side. She’d hidden for five years from the leader of a dangerous cult who planned to make her the mother of his child, the next messiah. Dare realized she needed serious help. He’d protect Lyra with his life, but could he protect his heart?

Chosen Prey is one of the rare and special books for which a five heart rating seems inadequate. Before I’d finished the first page I knew I couldn’t put it down. Dare and Lyra realized early on they were made for each other. Sex between them is inspirational. Dare has the experience Lyra lacks and he uses it with flair. Paying rapt attention to Lyra’s responses, his only desire is pleasing her. It was sexy and hot and had me scooting up against my honey. Their characters are so well developed they seem to come alive. It felt as though they were my friends who were facing great danger and fighting for their lives. Dare’s partner, Nick, “the weird, paranoid neat freak” with his Special Forces dark ops connections and training is a true friend who put his life on the line without a second thought. Neal, the prophet of the Temple of Light, will kill to possess Lyra again; he’s been seething for five years that she’d escaped him and hidden to avoid her destiny. Lyra would prefer death to Neal. Dare would die before he’d let go of the only woman he’s ever loved.
