| July County Missouri, population 250, needs a doctor. This sleepy midwestern town is brimming with love and good cheer. Neighbors helping neighbors, with a general family feel to the entire town. However, two years ago the town doctor died and no one else is willing to move to the small midwestern town and become its doctor. The town is desperate and the mayor and town council have set up a special tax to help pay a new doctor's education fees.
Dr. Jon Burnett graduated from Harvard School of Medicine and is looking forward to working with his uncle in a medical practice in Kansas City Mo. Driving to Kansas City for a Christmas visit with his Aunt and Uncle, Dr. Burnett becomes stranded in July County due to a severe snowstorm. Will the town's people convince Dr. Burnett to stay and become their doctor? Or will the lure of big money drag him away? The heart of Christmas in July's storyline is heartwarming and sweet. Unfortunately, the wordage doesn't live up to expectations. Movement from third person to first is stilted and choppy, and there is a distinct lack of flow. Additionally, I felt like relationships moved too fast to be believable. Much of the first person dialog is corny and uses a lot of clichés repeatedly. That being said, the characters were well defined and very likeable. The town and its citizens drew me in so that I wanted to know more. I really enjoyed the premise of this story even with the distraction of some technical problems and the difficulties with point of view.
