| Ginny has run away from her abusive and murderous police officer stepfather. She saw him commit a murder and has the evidence of it. She has been living in the vestibule of a video store and surviving on what she can scrounge. Her sister is living in a womens shelter with Ginnys two nephews. She was also a victim of her stepfathers abuse and was thrown out when she got pregnant. Ginny does not want to burden her with her problems, but tries to survive, dreaming of going to art school someday. One night, the video store is robbed and the robbers try to rape her. A man, who will change her life, even though he is a policeman like Ginnys stepfather, rescues her.
This is a very sweet story of a strong and determined woman and the man who helps her. Ginny has run away from and impossible and possibly deadly situation and has managed to survive on the streets with the help of various people who work in the local businesses and library. Nick has been watching her and helping her the best he could. He is a loner but something about Ginny touches him. He has to overcome her fear of men, particularly police. She has no good experiences with them since her stepfather is apparently a highly decorated officer, so Nick has some work ahead of him. He succeeds quickly. The subplot of Ginnys sisters familys struggles is also well done. I really enjoyed this story of a new start and new love at Christmas.
