Cindy Nesbitt runs a fairly successful private investigations firm in Reno. She is surprised by her best friend’s request for help. Her older brother Ty has apparently left his successful career on Wall Street to join a commune of supposed vampires in California. He hasn’t called his family in some time and they are frantic. Ty is not the person that Cindy would choose to look for. During her freshman year of college she dated Ty once. He took her virginity and never called again. They manage to be polite when they run across each other, but Cindy has really never forgiven him. But Liz is her best friend and Cindy can’t refuse to help her, even if she has to deal with Mr. Perfect again. Her curiosity if peaked though, what is the playboy surfer financial genius doing hanging out with phony vampires in the middle of nowhere?

Cindy is a fun addition to the list of female sleuths. She is a likeable character with sadness in her past and a determination to make something of her future. She is feisty and capable and does not need anyone. Ty regrets his treatment of her, but has no faith in her abilities, a mistake on his part. Devlin and his commune of would be vampires are an obvious scam, but the author really draws the reader into the story from beginning to end. It is soon obvious what is going on, but the reader will enjoy the journey to the end nevertheless.
