| Amy Logan is an assistant District Attorney who has pulled herself up from poverty. She's driving Detective Zachariah Ellison crazy by making a pest of herself. He's trying to find a murderer whose method of killing is unusually vicious. She wants the case to help make her career even better. As the suspense builds their aggravation with one another turns to passion.
Rie McGaha pens a tale of a victim of abuse fighting back. The methods may seem harsh to many or just what the abuser deserves depending on experiences and personal beliefs. Some of the subject matter may tear at the heart strings of the reader as we get to know the people involved. In contrast to the villain to a certain extent, both Amy and Zach have had painful situations. McGaha does a masterful job showing the varying coping skills people may use to deal with adversity. Characters and dialogue are superbly done by this author. Funny at times, deadly serious at others, mixed with eroticism that's spicy makes this the kind of book I like to read. We have just the right blend of good guys and bad. Each character seems to grow in personality as the book progresses. Zach probably makes the most drastic change from serious, in control, always sad at the loss of his wife to cancer. Amy brings out the best of him. Sufficient mystery is involved to make the reader wonder who the perpetrator of evil deeds is until close to the end. This is one of those fine books that gets the reader emotionally involved in many ways. The best fiction can be thought provoking and McGaha seems to excel at the art of challenging us while still making us smile.
