| After Carly Stevens quits working for an overly tyrannical boss, her best friend convinces her to go on a job interview for a dominatrix position. With no experience, training or new prospects on the horizon, Carly decides to do something completely out of character and goes for it. She flies through the interview by the seat of her pants and lands the job. In order to get a feel for her new alter ego, Mistress Marlena, Carly takes a seminar at which she meets Jesse Hernandez.
Jesse is an experienced Domme and clearly sees the great potential Carly has to be a submissive. Jesse and Carly make a fast connection, and as Jesse slowly shows Carly the pleasures of submitting, she increasingly becomes a more popular dominatrix at her club. She knows first hand what her clients are looking for and is great at giving it. All is well until Carly's ex-boss, Henry Franklin, becomes one of her regulars and is murdered during one of their sessions. Carly becomes the prime suspect in the case and Jesse is her only hope of finding the real killer. While the ending is a bit predictable, this story is a great read for everyone. It has humor, love and great sex laced throughout the story. Claire Thompson does a wonderful job showing both the softer and rougher sides of BDSM and getting the message across that it is not about the pain but about the trust it takes to give over complete control of oneself. Even if BDSM is not something you are really into, this story shows you great insight into that world from the point of view of a novice.
