| Skylar Creighton is told she has cancer with only weeks to live. She returns to her store, packs her gun, her favorite pirate story and is about to leave when a bleeding homeless man stumbles into her store. He begs her not to let the man who stabbed him have the green stone he puts into her hands. The next thing she knows she’s on the ship of her favorite pirate in 1704.
Lucynda Storey has woven an excellent tale of time travel, pirates and love. We get more information than in some of the books about the mysterious Collector and his companion in her tale. Skylar’s character is excellent. She doesn’t want to accept her impending death laying down. Unless, of course, it’s in the arms of her favorite pirate, Captain Rand Jamison. His story is complex and well done. His wife died, promising that they’d be together again. He sees much of her in Skylar. His nemesis, Owain Cutler, has battled him for years, first for Emma, the woman they both love, then on the sea, now for Skylar and the stone. The sea battle between Cutler’s and Jamison’s crews is great. Skylar is supposed to hiding out but, afraid for her new love, she pretends to be a man and tends to the crew’s injuries, bossing them around and making these tough seamen jump when she says jump. There’s humor, great characters, a little magic, time travel, surprises and lots of good sex in this excellent romance. It’s one of the better reads of this fascinating collection.
