| Brandon King, new detective on the LAPD, finds out his bisexual lover Phil is going ahead with his marriage. The rejection sends him back to the Collector. Audra Phelan has offered him the job of seeking the artifact from the temple of Karttikeya, an artifact that is said to grant the finder their heart‘s desire. Christian Carter, archeologist and hunk, goes along to help find the temple.
Laura Baumbach does her usual superb job of writing on this last of the collector series. The characters are well drawn. Brandon is shown to be way too neglected and emotionally abused by his sex partner. Because of losses in his life he clings to the known rather than search for something better.. Christian has never known either parent. His mother died shortly after his birth of a drug overdose brought on by depression. His dad is a famous archeologist who he’s never met. He’s along for the ride to meet the collector who, he hopes, can help him find his dad. Instead he meets his heart’s desire in Brandon. The scenes in the temple are suspenseful with some gallows humor thrown in. The temple guardians are also waiting for their heart’s desire. The author imbues this with great fear for a while. Who will win in the battle of wills? Kamat and Ahmedabad her lover cursed to live forever as a lion, or Brandon and Christian? This is one of the best parts of the tale. The book is a great page turner and a fitting end to this last of a set of wonderful love stories.
